As someone who appreciates sleep, I have a tendency of leaving my flat at the very last minute, which often means I skip breakfast. Now, as sensible adults, I’m sure you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When I was given the opportunity to try Herbalife’s Formula 1—a meal replacement shake—naturally, I jumped at the chance.
Formula 1 can be enjoyed as a nutritious breakfast, lunch or dinner, and is designed for those looking to maintain or lose weight, as well as those aiming to gain muscle as part of an energy-restricted diet. I, on the other hand, do none of these things but I won’t tell if you won’t. Deal?
I am a firm believer in that you only look as good as you feel, and being purveyors of style here at The Dapper Chapper, appearance is only as good as self-maintenance. This nutritional shake mix includes 23 key vitamins and minerals such as vitamins C, B6 and riboflavin which contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and vitamin D which helps maintain a healthy immune system as well as providing calcium. On top of that, the raspberry and blueberry flavour was rather lovely.
Having spent the majority of my morning getting ready, it helps that the shake was very quick to make: literally two tablespoons of the powder (26g) into 250ml milk, give it a little shake and you’re done. All in all, it took me about one minute to get it ready to fly out the door with me. (Don’t worry – the lid was firmly secure). I made sure I continued to shake it for a couple more minutes to ensure there were no clumps.
With my morning journey from East London to Mayfair taking exactly 45 minutes (without factoring in the often delayed train), it was more than enough time for me to have the shake and hit the ground running once I got into the office.
For someone who has seldom had a protein shake—or any form of powder / supplement for that matter—I have to admit that this has swayed me considerably. The shake has a lot of vitamins and nutrients and contains zero sweeteners or colours, thus being a solid addition to my meal plans. It might just help me on my way to achieving that ever-elusive six pack, too.
For days where I’m missing out on breakfast, I’ll simply swap my morning flat white for this instead. Well, maybe I’ll have it in addition to the flat white.
