On the back of many successful subscription services – snacks, cosmetics, and even razors – comes one dedicated to introducing you to new and interesting wines every single month. Le Petit Ballon sources a select number of wines monthly – within the package is two hand selected wines with a set of bespoke tasting notes, videos and tips, along with monthly magazine The Gazette which is a more in depth look at the world of wine.
The choice of wines within each box comes down to the trained knowledge of former Master Sommelier at the Ritz Paris, Jean-Michel Deluc, one of the highest-rated sommeliers in the world. His training in the UK gave the Frenchman a uniquely global perspective on wine. An established career rising through the ranks led him through Master Sommelier, becoming internationally recognised, even presiding over the
Paris-Île-de-France Sommeliers’ Association. He says of his newest position: “Wine is above all a question of pleasure and sharing magic moments. We want to drink the right thing in the right place with the right people! At Le Petit Ballon, my aim is to bring consumers and winemakers as close to one another as possible. Therefore, every month I present the results of my impartial tastings to our consumers. Le Petit Ballon is the challenge I was looking for to share my passion for wine with customers, be they beginners or keen connoisseurs.”
The boxes cater to two levels of connoisseur, the Grape Expectation subscription at £24.95 a month introduces you to value wines from lesser known vineyards, while the Age of Raisin at £39.90 allows access to the more prestigious ranges. Each is chosen by Deluc, and is available to purchase for a further three months after your initial introduction if you wanted more than a taster at a nice discount of 20%. If you’re concerned about something not being quite to up your street, answering a few simple questions can help tailor your subscriptions to a more personal taste.
If you’re thinking more generously, this is the ideal gift for someone who likes to explore wines, but it can also be a great introduction into a world of new flavours every single month.
