Last week we attended an event hosted by Van Loon Sport, who are an independent ski fashion studio, designing for a new generation of skiers.
Established by Greg Stidolph in 2014, the brand was born out of Greg’s frustration with the luxury ski-wear market. Stale design choices and unexciting garments had filled the market space, so inspired by urban street-wear culture, the brand has now introduced a new contemporary aesthetic to skiers.
Van Loon launched their new Shadow Peak collection at London’s indoor Ski centre, Chel-Ski, with a selection of high-profile influencers including Carl Thompson, Nas Abraham and Stef Fit (and us of course), all checking out the gear.
Versatility is prominent throughout the collection of gilets, knitwear and base layers. Specialist fabric compositions and knits are combined with performance-focused design to ensure each garment has the right insulation and comfort suitable for alpine conditions. For the collection, Van Loon has clearly sourced high quality fabrics & we’re told that all garments where produced with small scale and highly skilled UK manufacturers to ensure quality and refinement.
Founder and Creative Director, Greg Stidolph says, about the collection, “In the depths of the mountains, just after a heavy snowfall, you are transported to a world in black and white. Void of colour, contrasts and textures dictate your visual stimuli, a dream-like greyscale universe where you can float through powdered snow. Our collection was born of this place, the monochrome palette does nothing to distract, instead it invites the observer to appreciate the intricate fabric textures and depth of quality in the construction.”
What we like about the brand is that the collection can work seamlessly from day-to-evening. They are stylish but functional when you are out on the slopes and the mid-layers and gilet work for perfectly for the Apres Ski. That said, they are designed in a way that they can fit your urban Autumn/Winter wardrobe when you’re back home. Mid-layers, in particular including the Villeroi Top, which is our stand-out piece from the collection could even be dressed up with a jacket – as we did.*
Van Loon Sport’s ‘Shadow Peak’ collection is available online at www.vanloonsport.com and is stocked exclusively in Zermatt, Gstaad, Les Gets and at their pop-up store in Verbier this winter.
