Anzu brings Teishoku concept in a Japanese Brasseie setting to central London. Opened in mid-October St James St, this is not your ordinary Japanese restaurant.

So what is Teishoku?
It’s an authentic dish comprising of a main – such as Ebi Furai, Wagyu Sirlion or Black Cod Teriyaki alongside rice, pickles and other treasures. Anzu is the first ‘brasserie’ style restaurant from Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds, founders of the hugely popular group of ramen restaurants Tonkotsu.

Anzu is a great looking restaurant with the food to back it up, try their legendary Gyoza or their Chicken Karaage Teishoku. I haven’t tried their oysters, but this is something I will explore the Anza way. Sake lovers would love the Salmon cured in Sake and Ginger and Seabass Nanban Zuke – a marinated seabass dish.

Meat-lovers will adore the Wagyu Sirloin Steak with Soy Butter and ramen fiends will go to the restaurant for new variants, such as double stock Tsukemen or Wild Mushroom Ramen.

Founders Emma and Ken, say “…ecstatic to be able to bring a more fine-dining offering to London. The Teishoku is a simple, delicious, beautiful way to eat Japanese food and we think Londoners and tourists alike will adore the flavours and simplicity.”

So why not try it for yourself? If you’re a fan of Sake, Anzu offers a wide selection and some unusual varieties. I tried a variety of options paired with great dishes and can vouch for their unique flavours and quality. The staff are extremely knowledgeable so don’t hesitate to ask on pairings.
