Don’t be fooled by the name of this place as this is unlike any ‘tavern’ you may have visited before.

The Berners Tavern is opulent and suave with high ceilings, large chandeliers and artwork in gold frames covering almost every inch of wall space. It has got to be one of the most dramatic dining rooms we have come across and it certainly has an impact upon arrival.

Housed within the glamorous London Edition Hotel Berners Tavern serves contemporary British cuisine under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton.

We visited Berners Tavern one Thursday evening for a post work drink and the restaurant was completely full. This is definitely somewhere that you will need to book ahead of time. The cocktail menu is full of unique and interesting creations, but then there is nothing standard about Berner’s Tavern so why should their cocktails be!

The Queensland Fizz was a flavour combination unlike a cocktail we had tried before with Plymouth gin, agricole, Eucalyptus and Cream sugar, and it really worked.

We also tried the Waxed apple which has beeswax around the glass, also something we had not seen before, the Nikka from the barrel and fermented apple with the beeswax made for a really interesting and delicious flavour.

Accompanied by some delicious small plates from the bar menu it was the perfect way to start winding down the week. Other cocktails look like this:

The staff are charming and the service is impeccable as you would expect from somewhere of this calibre. If you have a special occasion coming up or have someone you really want to impress then this is definitely the place. For more information and bookings visit the Berners Tavern website
