How to conquer St James’s

St James’ is an extremely renowned area in the capital that offers everything from exceptional shopping, to boutique restaurants and some of the best cocktails bars in the city.

Here’s how we’d recommend you spend a day in this iconic London post code…

Breakfast at 45 Jermyn Street

As you should know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s essential to fuel your body before a day’s activities. We’d recommend you stop off at 45 Jermyn Street, located within Fortnum and Mason, for a spot of breakfast as their innovative, seasonal menu offers a wonderful range of nutritious and delicious foods, and features both familiar favourites and welcome surprises.

This is a real destination venue at the heart of St James’ and it’s wonderful atmosphere and friendly service will ensure you enjoy a positive start to the day.

Shopping at Turnbull & Asser

Once fuelled, it’s time to revel in the amazing array of shops that St James’ has to offer. We’d advise your first port of call be Turnbull & Asser, a wonderful British brand that make the most exquisite shirts and ties.

‘From the cutting of the cloth to the last sewing of the label, all of our shirts and ties are hand-crafted by expertly skilled artisans.’

We’re sure you’ll agree that sounds like the kind of service that’s fit for a dapper chapper.

Shoes at Joseph Cheaney & Sons

The torso is complete, so now it’s time to go below the belt. Any good Chapper should know that a man is often judged on the quality of his shoes (and rightly so) and you won’t find many shoe-making establishments of higher quality than Cheaneys.

Whether it’s a pair of Oxfords, Brogues or Double Monks, this is one of the best spots in the City to acquire premium quality shoes.

Gentleman’s Grooming at D.R. Harris

Chappers, in this modern day and age, gents are as conscious and savvy on grooming as the opposite sex, so we’d say its imperative that you try your best to keep on top of things. If you’re seeking traditional gentleman’s grooming products that’ll cater for your skin, scent, hair, the works; then we advise you pay a visit to D.R. Harris.

This is the oldest pharmacy in London, so as you can imagine, they are experts in their field and know exactly what they’re talking about – you couldn’t be in safer hands when it comes to groom products and advice.

Dinner at Maison Assouline

After a long day of perusing the wonderful shops that St James’ has to offer, we have no doubt that you will have worked up quite a thirst and thus will be ready for something to drink.

We’d recommend the incredible, contemporary library, Maison Assouline – it’s like nowhere you’ve ever been before; a wonderful venue that’s part bookstore, part boutique shop and part Parisian cafe. Although the vibe gives off the impression of your home from home, it’s filled with an exceptional range of books, wonderful aromas courtesy of scented candles, chic furniture, and a charming bar.

Cultivated for those who revel in the finer things in life, the Swan Bar as Maison Assouline offers delicate French platters, artisanal teas, wine, champagne and cocktails, and the experience is brilliant.
