Ever wanted to try authentic Greek foods and wines curated by experts? The Greek larder is your answer, Theodore Kyriakou who set-up The Real Greek and Livebait continues his winning formula with another great idea. Its Greek food for Grecian connoisseurs, combining meticulously sourced ingredients with London’s only Greek Trattoria (traditional Greek restaurant).
The food store element only adds to the restaurants offerings. Customers can enjoy delicacies such as homemade taramosolata, dalmadakia topped with smoked eel and olives from a single cooperative in Rovies. If these are a bit out your comfort zone, cheese from Greek Isles, vinegars and the finest olive oils can be purchased. The selection caters for a wide breadth of Greek foods, something missing in today’s marketplace.
The wine selection is something to behold, you can try the best in ‘dark’ to ‘rich’ red wines of the Xinomavro grape to the Assyrtiko variety from Santorini with its salty crystalline acidity.
The Greek Larder offers the ability to sample a glass with your meal recommended by knowledgeable staff. If you really like the wine, take home a bottle from the food store to widen your selection.
I was lucky enough to try a sample selection of some of their offerings available at their online store. The Greek Larder offers customers click and collect services and the ability to collect from store. As you can see from the images, the items varied in their region and have been meticulously sourced. I recommend the 2016 Muscat sec, Blanc Nature this is an organic wine produced from the small grain of Muscat. Really light and refreshing texture. The sea salt, honey and vinegar all being great additions to my kitchen.
