Today is a well above average days racing for a Thursday, with premier tracks Goodwood and Sandown showcasing some exciting future prospects, and Salisbury always has a good card.
Unfortunately the overnight rain has put paid to a bit of confidence behind ELITE ARMY in the Surbiton Handicap, in the 7:35 from Sandown. The Authorized colt went to Sandown last time unbeaten, and was strongly expected to win that day. Having travelled nicely into contention, he failed to quicken up in the soft underfoot conditions, but wasn’t disgraced in defeat to Windshear, who was only just touched off in the London Gold Cup last Saturday, to the well regarded Cannock Chase of Sir Michael Stoute’s. At 9/2, ELITE ARMY still warrants a small bet, but Munaaser is most certainly the danger. Sir Michael’s colt was once thought of a Derby prospect prior to debut, only going down by a length to Oxsana despite changing his legs frequently on the Yarmouth undulations. A mark of 82 is very lenient, and winners shall be coming from this handicap.
At Goodwood, RUSSIAN REALM will appreciate the drop back in trip and should win, but doesn’t represent too much value at 6/4, in the 3:50. The Listed Height of Fashion Stakes is the highlight of the card, and Luca Cumani’s JORDAN PRINCESS should take all of the beating, in an attempt to frank the form of Oaks’ favourite Taghrooda. Despite being well regarded, the clock watchers tell me Taghrooda’s performance in the Pretty Polly Stakes wasn’t as exceptional as it looked on the eye.
However we can pass word on for MAMBO SPIRIT in the 6:40 Salisbury, who should be putting his best foot forward.
