Topman has a place in most bloke’s wardrobes as one of a handful of brands that produce affordable clothing that is a) stylish enough for modern men and b) actually fits.
So when they invited us down to their personal shopping lounge at their flagship Oxford Street store, to take part in a styling challenge we were of course more than happy to oblige.
We were given £150 and one hour to build an outfit which had to champion an item from Topman’s denim collection.
The Dapper Chapper likes a challenge but we have a team of style writers who between them have an eclectic mix of styling, so rather than put all of our eggs into one basket I took on the smart-casual look & street stylist Rash, went for a more, well, street style look.
Topman has started to build a reputation for producing decent quality denim whilst still managing to keeping prices low. Although the new denim jackets are pretty nice, we both decided to build our outfit around the jeans due to the vast offering of fits and washes, including the newly introduced black, acid and light blues. Effectively Topman produce four fits of jeans; slim fit, spray on skinny, stretch slim and ripped jeans.
On top of this, the offering is complimented by Topman Design who’s AW15 campaign brought together 70s glam rock style, far Eastern pyschedelia and reworked mod tailoring – this includes everything from denim flares to overalls & is worth checking out if you’re a chapper looking to make more of a statement.
I’m afraid ripped is just one step too far for the Dapper Chapper & spray on skinny has its place with a younger generation but we were still left with a multitude of options from the slim fit and stretch slim ranges.
£150 doesn’t sound a huge amount but really that’s the beauty of the Topman brand because it does get you quite a long way. I can’t speak for Rash but 14 items made my wardrobe-shortlist & I could have easily put together three different outfits. When I wear denim I prefer it to be understated, I look for a simple colour and a good fit because the statement in the outfit I make elsewhere. If you are the same, you can’t really go wrong with Topman jeans and it’s a bonus that they can cost as little as £30!
Here’s how we got on:
