This was an afternoon with a difference…
If you’re in the mood for a very unusual, very decadent and very naughty afternoon, Volupte will be right up your street. Locations vary, so tracking down this elusive cabaret and burlesque show is all part of the fun, although for the time being they are in residence at Steam and Rye – which you can catch the review of from the other week here. Make sure not to use the listed address and number on Google!
I went into here without expectation, and was charmed from the outset. Patrons are invited to have a pre-show drink at the downstairs railway-inspired cocktail bar before the festivities begin. We were escorted upstairs and seated in the cosy leather armchairs, and prosecco duly poured. So far, so decadent. And then our stunning hostess made an appearance – Gracie lit up the room with her velvety voice and dulcet tones, entertaining us with vintage songs and comedic turns. She cleverly handpicked audience members to play a part, warming us up and setting the scene for each of the acts to follow. Her timings and tone could not have been more on point, and her witty observations throughout the songs has me in stitches.
The next act so well introduced by Gracie was the absolutely stunning Sofia St Villiere. Beautiful of course, with fiery red hair offset by a sparkling green costume, she delighted and enraptured with a slow tease… I think nearly everyone in the room was in love at the end of the performance. Deftly stepping back into her role, Gracie entertained with another song before Adriano Fettucini took to the stage. A completely surprising and enjoyable performance of magic, acrobatics and tricks, he showcased poise and acrobatic ability with graceful ease. Unicycles were involved.
The final performer, Jayde Adams, was probably the most surprising and wondrous of all. Comedienne and singer, I don’t really want to go into any more detail than that for fear of ruining the stunning act she put on show for us. After Jade’s performance, there was a short hiatus and then tea was served. It was more than enough for the two of us – teacakes, fresh baked scones and tasty finger sandwiches with a full pot of the tea of your choice. All served in delicate bone china, it felt like such a luxury.
The show continued after this with another performance from each off the entertainers, and of course our Gracie in the interm. The entire experience was wonderful, a really fantastic way to spend a Saturday afternoon and definitely on the right side of raunchy. Great for a few dates in, or if you wanted to shake things up a little – there were plenty of guys there so you won’t feel left out – Gracie will make sure of it!
