DRAKES OF LONDON: Facial Review

By Adam Thursday 29th Mar, 2018

DRAKES OF LONDON have been on my radar for quite a while, but for a while I just didn’t get the chance to pop in.

There are two venues, one in Tower Hill, and another on the corner of Jerdan Place, just a few miles down the road from me in Fulham – this is the spot I was really interested in.

The team at DRAKES is made up of in-house barbers, grooming consultants and therapists & the Fulham HQ is rightly dubbed as an oasis for a modern man. The service offering is eclectic and ranges from traditional wet shaves and haircuts, to full body massages, signature facials, and laser hair removal.

As you enter the barbershop you’ll immediately feel at ease, and I’d already had a number of positive word-of-mouth reviews on the barbering. I was greeted by a Dapper Chapper with a well groomed lid who, after I looked around the barbershop, led me next door because I thought it’d be a good time to try something different.

A facial.

We’ve been offered lots of facial reviews in the past but for some reason I’ve never got round to doing it, or selected a different treatment but facials are becoming increasingly popular for gents, so thought it’d be a good time to try it.

For those of you who have no idea what it actually entails, it’s not about a makeover but more about tackling any issues with your skin. If you suffer from spots, black-heads, facial blemishes or anything that effects your confidence it’s worth reading on.

Firstly, it’s worth saying that this is an indulgent treatment. It’s split into two phases; cleanse and treatment.

The cleanse happens under a light steamer, which naturally opens the pores for a double cleanse whereby your consultant has hand-picked products for your skin-type.

I had a combination of essential oils rubbed gently on my face followed by a clay mask, which is designed to firm the skin and shrink the blackheads.

What follows is the uncomfortable bit, as my consultant got to work on the black-heads. In general it felt like multiple pinches across my face, however I found the nose, which apparently was my problem area, really quite painful; but perhaps I was just being a bit soft. Chappers, this is the bit you need to persevere with because clearing the blackheads is what gives you the longer term benefits from the treatment.

Once that’s all done it’s back to indulgence, as you’re then treated to a head and shoulders massage and face moisturise to finish.

I left feeling recharged and relaxed but most importantly with great looking skin. I’d recommend this for any chaps looking to tackle specific challenges with their skin or those just looking for an hour of indulgence.
