A perfect shave is as much in the preparation as in the act itself, so soak a shaving towel in hot water and hold it against the target area for a few minutes to soften the skin and open the pores. Next, apply a light layer of a good shaving oil, which will further toughen up that tough stubble and make your shave.
Before you start, it’s imperative that you make sure that you’ve got the right equipment to hand, so if you’re a wet shaving beginner then start with a shavette razor. Similar to a straight or cut-throat razor, this one takes disposable blades, making it a cheaper and easier to look-after option for anyone keen to learn the technique first.
Apply your chosen shaving cream with a slightly damp shaving brush, working it up into a lather using a circular motion.
Now it’s time to reach for your razor. Holding it in your dominant hand, with your thumb underneath, stretch the skin until taut with your free hand. Hold the blade at a thirty degree angle to avoid any nasty cuts, and make short, even strokes in the direction of hair growth.
Once you’ve covered the whole area, you can rinse, re-lather and go in for round two, this time going against the grain to get that really close shave.
