Celebrate Chinese New Year with Hakkasan
This Chinese New Year, Dapper Chapper favourite Hakkasan is honoring the Chinese “Wishing Tree” tradition by offering a nine dish festive feast whilst collecting wishes from around the world. The wish collection and signature menu will be available to guests from Sunday 8th February to Sunday 1st March & The Dapper Chapper can confirm that this is the only venue to celebrate the Chinese New Year in style.
Known for its modern approach to traditional Cantonese cuisine, Hakkasan’s limited edition menu created by Michelin-starred Executive Head Chef Tong Chee Hwee will include a selection of its acclaimed signature dishes as well as a contemporary interpretation on authentic Chinese New Year fare.
The nine dish menu impresses in different ways, but each addition helps to develop a fascinating narrative for the evening. We’ve raved about the venue previously but so long as Hakkasan continue to innovate, we’ll continue to post.
The set menu starts with small eats to start, such as Spicy lamb lupin wrap (a dish to bring happiness in the Year of the Sheep), Dim sum platter (to bring happiness at your doorstep) and Golden fried soft shell crab with red chili and curry leaf.
For the mains, Hakkasan signature items including the Spicy prawn, Stir-fry black pepper rib eye beef with Merlot, Grilled Chilean seabass in honey, Stir-fry Lily bulb and garlic shoot and Abalone and dry scallop fried rice, a dish to bring good fortune and wealth in 2015, will be served.
For larger groups looking to add some extra dishes, the A la carte items such as the Sha cha mock duck and Fried pumpkin tofu and aubergine are also available – be warned though, you won’t be leaving hungry after the set 9 dishes.
To finish, the Kumquat Wishing Tree, an enchanting dessert complete with chocolate, caramelized macadamia and cocoa rocks, made to sweeten the New Year. This little beauty was prepared over five days – a nice touch to finish the night.
To cleanse the palate, the Kumquatcha, a specialty cocktail representing good fortune, prosperity and happiness, is available for an additional £11.88. Guests who dine from the Chinese New Year signature menu will receive a red envelope with special gift of a complimentary cocktail.
In true Dapper Chapper style we started the night with a Smoky Negroni & finished it with a neat Yamazaki 12yr – we like to top & tale the evening with whisky, you see, and recommend you do too.
For you Londoners looking to visit soon, the main gig to get to is Sunday 22nd February when you can welcome the start of the Year of the Sheep. Hakkasan will feature entertainment to highlight the New Year, believed to bring good luck and fortune, the lion dance will be at the epicenter of the restaurant’s celebration. On the night Lion troupes will make their way through the intimate latticed woodwork cages of Hakkasan, offering symbolic expressions of luck, fortune, wisdom and joy – not to be missed.
The Chinese New Year menu is available for £88.88 per person. A la carte items will be individually priced, starting at £12.88.
And finally, it’s not just London who have it going on, inspired by the ‘Wishing Tree’ in Hong Kong, all Hakkasan locations across the globe are inviting guests to share their hopes for 2015 by writing their wishes on specially designed wishing ribbons that will be placed throughout the restaurants during the festive period. Hakkasan Nightclub in Las Vegas will also partake by displaying a grand scale wishing tree at the entrance of the 80,000-square-foot-venue. Wishes will be collected from guests each night and a random selection of wishes will be displayed on the LED screens of the main room of the nightclub.
A collection of wishes from around the world will also be shared on Instagram.com/hakkasanwishes and on Hakkasan.com, which will both launch on 8th February.
