Tewkesbury Park Hotel Review
With the British weather finally looking like it is taking a turn for the better now is perhaps the perfect time to look at your summer staycation or a weekend in the countryside away from the stresses of daily life.
During the last bank-holiday I took Mrs DC to Tewksbury, a good-looking part of the Cotswolds where we were given a chance to review the Tewkesbury Park Hotel.
The hotel is set in 163 acres of beautiful parkland and overlooks the famous site of the Battle of Tewkesbury. They have finalised the second phase of their 3-year renovation plan and lucky for us the 9 luxury historic suites were ready for our stay.
We stayed in the King Richard III suite with all suites taking their namesakes from key characters who fought in the AD1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. We were instantly hit by the breath-taking views in our room, which you could say the room was fit for a… O.K, I’ll stop.
The King Richard III suite has what I can honestly say is one of the best bathrooms we have ever had the pleasure of using. It doesn’t get more relaxing than laying in a slipper bath, playing classical music on the TV and taking in the view of the rolling hills.
I watched the Champions League Final on the 40” inch Smart TV in our room, on the very comfortable bed however I did feel a little bad for the young chap delivering our room service who arrived just as Gareth Bale bicycled it into the top corner. He was a Liverpool fan. Ouch.
For once we were not disappointed by a spot of bad weather as it forced us into checking out the gym and spa facilities at the hotel. After a workout in the well-equipped gym and a swim in the pool followed by a full body massage we were almost disappointed to see the sun had come out so we were able to leave the hotel and go exploring.
When it did reappear, you can head outside for some croquet on the lawn or giant-Jenga, all with a Pimms in hand, of course.
The hotel is well located for visiting other parts of the Cotswolds which we took advantage of. We ventured out to explore Stow on the Wold and Upper Slaughter, both picturesque parts of the Cotswolds and worth checking out when you’re visiting.
Tewksbury is also quite nice with the main attraction coming in the form of the Full Steam Ahead Experience. Guests can now take the train from Cheltenham Racecourse to beautiful Broadway, and enjoy a little piece of quintessential British history – we were lucky enough to see it steam past twice!
Although we didn’t play, the hotel is also a haven for golfers because amongst the grounds lies what looks like a fantastic 18-hole course, in fact it’s where one of the Dapper Chapper writers, Tom, played when he was young!
Thumbs up from The Dapper Chapper.
