Gieves & Hawkes LCM AW 16

By Rashpal Amrit Monday 18th Jan, 2016

The AW16 collection warrants a new direction for Gieves & Hawkes, gone is the Fall’s dark and slick mood. This collection is more about the the modern British gentleman’s lifestyle. The looks are paired down to more casual clothes which still ooze luxury, but in a more considered manner. What stands out is the youthful direction for the brand and the clean and fresh styling.

Tailoring
The looks have been paired down and layering is key, for example a grey granite donegal is worn with a cashmere knit polo and bold knit scarf. A navy checked coat is worn with a textured wool knit tie and tonal shirt. The double breasted camel blazer has to be my favorite pieces in this extensive collection.

Casualwear & Outerwear
Gieves & Hawkes has worked with UK mills to create unique statement fabrics such as houndstooth and large Prince of Wales checks. Technical fabrics have been developed in Italy to ensure pieces such as the red waterproof-wool bodywarmer is practical and stylish. The exclusive British-woven wool jacquard bomber jacket is a modern interpretation of a tweed jacket with great detailing.

Eveningwear

The formal evening silk jacquard has become a signature for the brand. The brand has also continued to work with British silk weavers to create new patterns, this seasons foliate country jacquard in bronze is a great example.

Shoe & Accessories

Reflecting the youthful nature of the season, shoes such as Chelsea boots have been fitted with a chunky Commando sole. The country lace-up has been pared down and beefed up in places. Furthermore, oversized cable-knit scarves worn with tailoring are great for layering.
