All aboard the SS Atlantica

It was a balmy evening as we boarded the imposing Silver Sturgeon, transformed for the evening into the SS: Atlantica, resplendent in our fancy 1930’s gowns. Ok, perhaps not quite resplendent, but we were looking forward to a rather spectacular evening nonetheless.

We were treated to the itinerary of a 1930’s ship, greeted as we stepped foot on deck by immaculately suited and booted staff. Interestingly, there was a huge range of ages on the ship, each person had obviously taken care to dress for the occasion. We spotted tops and tails, stunning beaded gowns and even a gilded cane or two.

We followed the music down the sweeping staircase to find a live band playing swing tunes with a passion, and pretty soon the dancefloor was filling up. We headed to the bar to enjoy a perfectly made Old Fashioned before paying the roulette table a visit. Unfortunately, we didn’t win any ‘real’ money, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless and the sense of competition soon had people placing chips left right and centre for the pure joy of gathering them up!

Soon the entertainment was hotting up with a beautiful burlesque display from one of London’s foremost cabaret acts. People stood mesmerised as she gracefully danced below the magnificent staircase, feathers floating and diamanté glittering hypnotically under the lights. We were delighted to be treated to a second performance later in the evening.

Taking a breather up on deck it was a wonderful sight watching the lights of London slowly twinkling as we glided down the Thames. Wind breezing through our (faux) fur, champagne glass in hand, it was a pretty nice spot to be, taking in the sights, the atmosphere, the laughter and the amazing live music from below deck.

For an opulent evening that really takes you back to the glamour of the 1930’s, classic cocktails, champagne and entertainment, get yourself a ticket on the grandest vessel on the Thames, the SS Atlantica.
