Buffalo Trace: Bourbon Review
This week, The Dapper Chapper team have had a bourbon from Buffalo Trace on review. What better way to spend lockdown?
Here’s what we thought:
Buffalo Trace is an award-winning bourbon so we expected good things. Made from corn, rye and malt barley its classified as a straight Kentucky Bourbon. Batched from new oak barrels, 40 at a time, this is why we think it’s worth adding this to your Dapper Bar.
On the nose we found sweeter flavours dominate such as caramel, with hints of spice coming from cinnamon and rum spice – think spicy & sweet.
On the palate some of the darker flavours come through as you’d expect from a good Bourbon, brown sugar, toffee apple, sweet oak, custard, coffee and chocolate all play a part.
There is good length on the finish with cinnamon and toffee the most dominant flavour.
It therefore comes as no surprise that the Buffalo Trace Distillery was been awarded Distillery of the Year by tasting Panel Magazine at 2020.
This prestigious award has been bestowed to Buffalo Trace Distillery in 2020 after its spirits garnered a total of 18 medals and a Best in Class designation. This includes five Double Gold medals, four Gold medals, six Silver medals and three Bronze medals and the title of Best Small Batch Bourbon 11 Years and Older for its Eagle Rare 17-Year-Old.
Overall, a well-balanced, smooth and flavoursome bourbon that retails in the U.K at £23.99 (at time of publish).
