KONIKS TAIL VODKA

By Neil Brotherston Thursday 25th Sep, 2014

Vodka stocked in The Ritz, Selfridges, Fortnum and Mason, Claridge’s, Harvey Nichols, Harrod’s and The Dorchester, with many more queuing up to get their hands on it – it must be Grey Goose right?

Wrong. There’s a new star in the world of premium vodkas and boy is it making a name for itself. Konik’s Tail vodka has taken London’s exclusive bar and hotel scene by storm – everyone wants to stock it. But don’t expect to see it in nightclubs or supermarkets any time soon, that’s just not Konik’s Tail’s style.

In the space of three years, Pleurat Shabani, the Vodka brands creator, owner and sole employee has taken Konik’s Tail to the title of “Most Loved” Vodka by 50 of the world’s leading bars – an award presented by Drinks International. It’s a truly remarkable story for a vodka produced “on a shoestring” as Shabani puts it.

So what is it about Konik’s Tail that makes it so highly regarded amongst London’s elite?

Well for a start, it’s the quality of the grains used in the making of it. Konik’s Tail is an expert blend of 3 of the highest quality grains available, each adding their own distinctive contribution to the overall flavour profile. They are the result of months of research from Shabani, involving him camping out in the Polish Woods to identify the best possible grains to make his vodka.

In the end the perfect mix looked like this:

Ancient Spelt – Complex, crisp and sophisticated (brazil nuts, crisp, earthy and complex)

Golden Rye – Full bodied, rich and distinctive (light buttery character, aniseed freshness and white pepper basil spice)

Early Winter Wheat – Smooth, clean and classic (creamy vanilla and clean fresh finish, lingering, faint citrus notes)

And it’s safe to say all that time, effort, persistence and attention to detail paid off. Konik’s Tail is quite simply like no other vodka I have ever tasted. Crisp and sharp, yet light, nutty and with a hint of vanilla on the palate, it really is a joy to drink. It takes pretty special vodka for me to sip it straight or on the rocks, but with Konik’s Tail that is exactly what I’ll do. It literally doesn’t need anything else – although it is excellent with a squeeze of lemon.

So if you’re looking for a new vodka to add to your dapper bar at home, then look no further. We honestly haven’t come across a better tasting vodka out there….and we’ve tried.

So get out your favourite tumbler, add and cube of ice, a squeeze of lemon and a healthy serving of Konik’s Tail and enjoy. You can thank us later.

Konik’s Tail is available for £38.99 from Selfridges and selected other retailers.
