Ping Pong Summer Menu Review

By Adam Sunday 14th Aug, 2016

Even though the Great British Summer may be disappearing, there’s still time to bring a little sunshine into your life with the summer menu at Ping Pong.

The menu has been inspired by lazy days in the sun and the sweet smells of summer and all of the dishes in this new menu can be ordered to go, delivered to the park or enjoyed on one of their terraces.

We headed to the Southbank branch of this well-loved Dim Sum restaurants and immediately ordered some cocktails from the summer collection. The Jalisco Hop really does bring rays of sunshine as it promises and is very light and refreshing.

We were recommended to try some of the new dishes such as the Pork Belly Bao which are fluffy white steamed buns filled with pork belly, and our verdict is that these are an absolute must try, as are the Smoked lap cheong dumplings.

They were followed by succulent Wu Xiang Spring Lamb and Cumin Roll’s, slow-roasted spring lamb marinated in five spice and cumin mixed with white cabbage and shallots wrapped in a light crispy spring roll pastry. You also can’t go wrong with a bit of Crispy Chilli Squid, these coated in chilli and sichuan salt, served with a wedge of lemon.

Vegetarians have a wide selection to choose from; it’s hard to look past the simple yet satisfying BBQ asparagus, served with a delicious Chinese BBQ sauce, or mix things up with the Tofu, Mushroom and Black Bean Pot, an inviting dish mixed with broccoli, baby corn and served on a generous portion of jasmine rice.

As we had ordered so many dishes between us (it just all looks so good!) our server advised that they would bring the food out in 2 sittings so that we had enough space on the table and that the food remained hot. The service was excellent throughout, attentive without being over bearing.

In between sittings it was time to try another cocktail, and we decided on the lemon Tonic Sorbet, made up of gin, tonic water, rosemary, orange blossom ad honey bitters topped with Lemon sorbet. It is the perfect summer drink and a great way to shake up the classic G&T.
